Nothing gives you kicks like Route 66. I got to do this fun, retro map for Portrait of Route 66 by University of Oklahoma Press. It's a book about the Curt Teich Postcard Archives in Illinois, which has a fabulous, kitschy collection of Route 66 postcards.

This tilted map was designed to look like a postcard. It spans a two-page spread, thus the gap down the center for the fold (aka the gutter) of the book. The colors were picked from the rich, saturated tones of the old postcards.

I got to map from Chicago to Amarillo and Gallup, New Mexico. Flagstaff, Arizona don't forget Winona...
